In Jülich, the carnival season always lasts one day longer than elsewhere: the customary day for the Lazarus Strohmanus Historical Society, which then stretches Lazarus.
This is not only something special – it also means that schools remain closed and public life comes to a standstill from midday at the latest, giving way to partying in the city.
Apart from that, there are of course fixed rituals, which are determined by the Kengerzoch festival committee. In general, the entire festival committee is made up of the six societies Rurblümchen, Rursternchen, Ulk, Lazarus Strohmanus, Stadtgarde and Stopp dä Mutz from Broich. Each society sends five delegates. The board is elected from these ranks – and is responsible for the start of the session – always on the Saturday around 11.11 -, the Tulip Sunday parade and also the supervision of the children’s triumvirate.
On Weiberfastnacht, the confetti ball and the disco tent for young people on the Schlossplatz are an integral part of the carnival canon in Jülich.
