The Rurtalbahn provides local rail passenger transport in the Düren district on the routes of the Rurtalbahn and Eifel-Bördebahn.
In June 2002, the Jülich – Linnich line was reopened for passenger transport. For this purpose, the Rurtalbahn renewed all the stops along the route. The entire line was equipped with modern train safety technology, and the speed on the route was increased to provide more attractive travel times.
With its regional train lines to Jülich/Linnich and Untermaubach/Heimbach, a connection is reached every half hour, which is popular not only among commuters and students but also many tourists. Notably, Rurtalbahn operates and maintains the railway network around Düren and Euskirchen itself.
From Düren, long-distance trains operate toward Aachen and Cologne. With the autumn timetable for 2023, a direct connection to Berlin is expected to be available. Additionally, the company is planning further expansion of a direct line to Hamburg.
