No Elferrat or triumvirate, but a special carnival society: KG Rursternchen 1948. The community has its own “anthem”, its Rursterchenlied, and – unlike many other friendly societies – the majority of the board is female. There is a chairwoman and a deputy chairwoman, a managing director and press officer and a large number of female members. Because the “core business”, apart from the joy of celebrating, is dancing.
There are four dance troupes: Staggered according to age in the “Minis”, the Teenstars, StarLights and Lucky Stars. Over 70 active members belong to it.
In January of the current session, KG Rursternchen invites friendly societies and dance groups to a competition: StarContest is the title under which the dancers face a selected jury. It’s all about the big picture: skillfully placed steps, synchronicity, lifting figures and the grand entrance – the performance.
