The Schwammenauel Dam is a 77.4-meter-high dam in the southwest of North Rhine-Westphalia, which impounds the Rur River, creating the 7.83 square kilometer Rur Reservoir at the border between Aachen and Düren. The Rur Reservoir is the second largest reservoir in Germany.
Active visitors can walk around it, cycle around it, and of course, enjoy activities on and in the lake: swimming areas at the Rur Lake Center in Rurberg, Woffelsbacher Bay, Sonnenstrand Eschauel, and the nature experience pool in Einruhr invite people to swim. Stand-up paddlers and canoeists can explore the Rur Lake from the water. Watercraft can be rented on-site, and the Rursee shipping company offers boat tours across the lake.
The Jülich Sailing Club (SCJ), founded in 1968, also has its boats moored at Rur Lake.
The club provides its own boats for general use.
