Rur – founding grounds for Jülich – Bologne sur Mere
The Rur is a 164.5 km long tributary of the Meuse and connects countries and people: it flows through Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. E Around 80 percent of the river stretch is on German territory.
In the Jülich urban area are the districts of Selgersdorf, Altenburg and Kirchberg touches where Inde and Rur unite. The Rur flows past the Jülich Heckfeld and the core city A44 and past the districts of Koslar, Broich and Barmen.
In Jülich, along the Große Rurstraße towards Aachener Landstraße, lies the narrowest ford. This is why the Romans had already identified “Juliacum” as an important location. Here, travelers could take a break after a day’s journey from Cologne and eventually set out towards Bologne sur Mer.
