The St. Rochus shooting fraternity is one of the last two shooting fraternities in the town center. It was Founded in 1819.
The marksmen cultivated a lively club life, which came to a standstill during the two world wars. After the Second World War, the marksmen became active again. Internal quarrels brought club life to a standstill in the mid-1950s. At a parish festival of the St. Rochus parish, the Rochus Schützenbruderschaft was re-established on 14.06.1976 – after club life had come to a standstill in the 1950s – with 53 people present. The traditional uniforms with sabres, hats and ranks were dispensed with; a black suit, a ribbon and a club badge sufficed as an external distinguishing feature.
Since 1995, the club has been based in the former bicycle cellar in Jülich’s Kultur-Bahnhof. Two active shooting teams compete for places from October to the beginning of April. The shooting range also provides space for the annual New Year’s reception, the celebrity shooting and the shooting festival finale. Shooters not only adhere to the motto of faith, custom and homeland, but sociability, fun and good cooperation also characterize club life.
The annual Brotherhood Day on the Sunday after Easter, with kale and Mettwurst sausage meal, takes place in the Rochusheim, the traditional bird shooting takes place in the cart building hall of the KG Rurblümchen.
