European Championship danced to victory
The Funky Teens from TSG Rot-Weiße Funken Güsten e.V. won the EFDO 2023 European Championships with their dance “Who’s next” in the Senior Character Small Group category.
The Funky Teens are Maria Fedosov, Kathi Kanehl, Michelle Meyer and Mia Vieth with their coach Julia Cremer. The path “to” Europe was not an easy one: the performance of the dance group was rewarded with good points at the respective tournaments, which, in addition to participating in five tournaments, are ultimately decisive for qualifying for the national championships and the EURO. The team had to cope with and make up for an absence due to illness. Mia Vieth could only be there as a supporter. She was unable to dance. The group would like to say a big thank you to Lilly Josten, who stepped in even though she had actually given up her competition career.
All the imponderables were overcome, and so they took to the floor in Zonhoven, Belgium, against the international field of competitors from their own country, Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria. “They danced at the highest level,” confirmed the ‘Funken’. They started with bib number 1 – the symbolic lucky number, as it turned out later. They were able to take home the title of European champions.
