Synlight

Jülich attracted worldwide attention overnight with the launch of the Synlight large-scale research facility in 2016. The facility is the largest large-scale research facility for generating artificial sunlight. 149 high-performance emitters, each with the power of a large cinema projector, are arranged on an area measuring 14 by 16 meters. The solar simulator achieves 10,000 times the intensity of natural solar radiation on earth and is primarily used to develop solar fuels.
