The ‘Sun Catcher’ at the solar towers in Jülich is intended to guide people along ‘paths of art’ in the future. Rudi Vaasen was not able to see the realization of his last heartfelt project in large format, which has been prepared in collaboration with the research center since last autumn. However, the ‘Sun Catcher’ will serve as a permanent and visible reminder of the great artist alongside the ‘Konzil’ in Brückenkopf Park.
The younger generation will specifically need to engage with what the Sun Catcher does for them on the other side. This creates both a temporal and spatial connection. In the present, this is represented by Jülich’s research, particularly solar research, symbolizing the important challenges of the future, such as energy and climate issues (design for the visitor center at the solar tower: Rudolf Vaasen, The Sun Catcher). The goal, alongside the experiential aspect, is to invite dialogue with the public and tourists.
