Important Step Towards Campus Merscher Höhe
The municipalities of Jülich, Niederzier, and Titz expressed their intention in 2015 to develop the areas around the former Merscher Höhe transmission facility as an interregional industrial zone covering approximately 55 hectares.
A further development step was taken when the three mayors of the municipalities—Heinrich Stommel, Hermann Heuser, and Jürgen Frantzen—signed a joint proposal for the regional planning amendment to transform the former transmission facility into the Campus Merscher Höhe industrial area.
The regional planning amendment is the first step toward establishing the planning rights for the Merscher Höhe Campus commercial area.
The intermunicipal commercial area Campus Merscher Höhe aims to support the impending structural change in the mining region of Indeland and promote the integration of science and industry through collaboration with Aachen University of Applied Sciences and the Jülich Research Center.
